To do list.

We started off our new year with a hike at one of our favorite hiking spots, Daley Ranch. We took Jack for his first hike ever. I've always been nervous that his little legs wouldn't be able to carry him, but he was leading the charge! It was so nice to start off being outside and active.

Daley Ranch

One of my resolutions last year was to get our house to a point I'd be happy with. That did not happen, obviously. It gets hard at times knowing we'll only be here for two more years. I am always conflicted on whether to spend money on projects for our house now, or save for a house when Matt gets out of the Marine Corps. I guess I just need to find a better balance. I'm sure most renters know how I feel, right? I can't be alone!

We still have a to-do list a mile long as far as house projects go though. My family is coming to visit in May and I want the house to look awesome. What you'll see in the upcoming weeks (probably more likely, months):

A vase to lamp transformation
A workbench built by Matt
Another Ikea hack (I'm SOO ridiculously excited about this one!!)
A new table runner
Craft supplies organization
A fancied up powder room
A wreath
A new doormat
DIY window treatments
A DIY headboard
A fancied up laundry room

I also need:

More book storage
A desk chair
A mirror
Bedding

I have unlimited ideas but limited funds. Isn't that always the case? For me it is. Anyone want to donate?

Kidding.

Kind of.

How did you start off your new year? What do you have on your to do list?

  1. I rented for 7 years before we bought our first house a year ago so I can completely understand how you feel! I found that by sticking to expensive basics in a neutral(ish!) colour, they work well anywhere. I kept all my coloured/trend items to cheap accessories so that I wouldn't mind if they didn't fit with the new house. I had lots of canvases wrapped in fabric to cover up the walls that I've used in our new house too. I think by getting things you LOVE it doesn't matter where you move, you'll always make them work!

I can't remember how I found your blog last week but I did! I read right back to the beginning (sorry if that's a bit weird!) and loved it all

  2. Aw thanks Jess! I don't think it's weird! I've actually done that myself with a few blogs :) I wish you left your email. Funny that you're from Australia because we're planning a big trip there! What a coincidence! Hope you're enjoying your new year :)
