On Sunday morning we drove out to Poway to hike Iron Mountain.
I loved the entry to the trail...
But I was pretty daunted when I caught my first glimpse of the trail itself...
It was definitely challenging but the views on the way up were gorgeous...
And the views from the top were DEFINITELY worth it.
And it was super rewarding to see just how far we had hiked. We knew it was six miles round trip, but this visual spoke for itself.
The arrow is pointing to the parking lot where we parked. And yes, that is the ocean on the horizon, which is 25 miles away from the mountain. Overall, it was pretty spectacular.
I feel like I've gotten more comments from local readers lately - so do any of you have any good hiking recommendations in San Diego county or southern Orange County!?

I can see Cowles Mountain from my new home. I've heard that it's a gorgeous view. It's in Mission Regional Trails Park.

We lived in San Onofre 1 housing. We liked to go to San Onofre state beach for a nice walk. Have you gone into San Juan Capistrano yet? If you go to their inland areas they have beautiful scenery off of highway 74 which offers great hiking places. Also you should take the 74 to Temecula and go to the lake! We lived in SC for 4 years so let me know if you need any other advice!
